"Domestic" Violence?

Reading this article by Amanda Marcotte, I become incensed as I see "domestic" being used to describe the horrible, often repeated criminal violence inflicted upon, more often than not, women and children, in their homes.

The term describes where the violence takes place, making it sound tame. At home, where a person is vulnerable and often defenseless. At home, with no one to witness or intercede. At home, where we ought to be safe.

It is criminal violence at home. It is vile, injurious physical abuse that is legally and morally wrong.
